Could you live on $1188 a month? What if you were living with a severe disability?
This campaign aims to bring the 'Alberta Income for the Severely Handicapped' (commonly known as AISH) up to Stats Canada's 'Low Income Cut-Off' (LICO). Currently the basic living amount on AISH is $ 1188 per month. AISH would need to increase $ 347 a month to bring Albertans living on AISH up to the poverty line.

An AISH increase of $300-$350 is not unreasonable. I receive $1150 per month. My rent is $995. That is NOT sustainable. I cannot move for medical reasons at present and I am in a full time therapy program.
ReplyDeleteI saw this Yahoo! Canada News article on how much money Canadians need to have in order to retire. I don't think people on AISH have that type of money of lying around to help them retire in the future.
